Pilot Studies

Pilot scale evaluation commonly follows a scoping or desktop study, as shown schematically in the following diagram. Field trial of the selected treatment system or integrated management solution is an important step in the implementation process. The aim of the piloting is to provide a systematic assessment of the performance of the proposed system and confirm the capital and operating cost estimates prior to a making a final commercial decision.

Geo-Processors has over 15 years of experience with piloting of its treatment systems on a wide variety of produced waters, including energy generation, coal seam gas production, municipal wastewater treatment, water recycling, and irrigation.

This unique experience can be applied to the advantage of clients requiring piloting of the technology of choice, for achieving one or more of the following objectives in a cost effective and timely manner:

  • Confirm the performance of the selected treatment processes through batch and continuous operations.
  • Confirm mass and energy balances through conduct of technical audits and product QC sampling during production runs.
  • Produce sufficient quantities of products from effluent streams to enable effective market evaluation.
  • Optimise the final selected process through specific field trials.
  • Select the most appropriate treatment system in terms of energy consumption, efficiency, product value and salability and level of capital outlay.
  • Produce a set of design criteria and equipment specifications for use in engineering design and costing of a commercial facility.
  • Process and products demonstration to stakeholders and interested parties.

The design and implementation of piloting programs are discussed and coordinated with our clients to ensure full compatibility with their project development and evaluation schedules for commercial decision making.
